Small is more agile, more adaptable and quicker than the opposition. Look no further than Lionel Messi.

One of the biggest strengths of being an independent estate agent is something that often gets overlooked — the ability to move quickly.

In a recent article published by Property Industry Eye, Chris Webb explored “The Hidden Advantage of Being the Smaller Estate Agent”, highlighting how smaller agencies can often adapt faster than larger corporate businesses.

Chris makes a very good point. In today’s market, the way agents win instructions is constantly evolving. Social media, video content, AI tools and new marketing platforms are changing the landscape at pace. For larger organisations, introducing something new can take weeks or months of meetings, training and approval processes. For smaller businesses, it can often be implemented immediately.

Last week, we were part of the annual Keller Williams MegaCamp in London. Some of the amazing cutting edge ideas from the brilliant speakers, including Chris, were implemented immediately over the weekend. Others are being worked on now.

That ability to be agile is one of the reasons smaller agencies are often able to stand out. Whether it is trying a different style of video, adjusting a marketing strategy, testing new technology or changing the way clients are communicated with, independent agents can react quickly and learn what works sooner. That’s without the specific strategy changes that you implement from political and global issues which are so acute at the moment.

Of course, being smaller is not automatically an advantage. Without good systems and structure, it can easily become reactive rather than strategic. But for businesses that are organised and client-focused, speed and flexibility can be a real competitive edge.

It was great to catch up with Chris at the Keller Williams MegaCamp. His article is a timely reminder that while larger firms may have size and infrastructure, smaller independent agents often have the freedom to innovate, adapt and deliver a more personal service.

And in a market that is constantly changing, that flexibility can make all the difference.
